In honor of Free Comic Book Day, we just released a one shot from our back catalog for free (digitally) over at IndyPlanet. This will run for about another 12 hours or so, give or take. This past weekend at the Darkon Expo in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Equinox Comics released a new one shot written by me titled THE CHRONICLES OF RACHEL STRAND: VOODOO, featuring Rachel Strand - wielder of the Hellrazers - and the first appearance of Equinox antihero Voodoo.

It's My Birthday - Read Hellrazer

Yeah, I'm laying a guilt trip on you all.

Most of you know me as Tommy the RPG Reviewer.

I do wear a few other hats (and adding more all the time)...but the one I am the most passionate about is that of Comic Book Writer.

It is also my birthday.

To that end, I implore you to go read my webcomic. It's free, and I don't think it's horrible (and I think it's getting better all the time). You can also follow it on Facebook.

More Shameless Self Promotion

By the nature of the site, I do a lot of pimping for other people's stuff...today, I need to do a little pimping for my products again.

Hellrazer: The Chronicles of Rachel Strand was selected by DrunkDuck.com as their feature this past Thursday, drawing extra attention to mine and Johnnie Johnson's hard work. That was a great moment for me this week. Every little bit of recognition helps, you know? Facebook users can also follow us on the Hellrazer Facebook page.

We also had a comic book signing last night for Equinox #2, which continues the Genesis story from Equinox #1 and includes a back-up story introducing The Curse, a story I previewed on here a few months ago. The Curse will be appearing in Hellrazer later this year, and you can order copies of either issue of Equinox at IndyPlanet.com.

Finally, preorders are open for War of the Dead Chapter 4, written by Lee Szczepanik Jr., edited by me and published by Daring Entertainment. This is the grand finale of the War of the Dead saga, taking your zombie apocalypse survivors into Legendary and setting up the World of the Dead Savage Setting. Hellrazer: The Series begins!

I was gonna do the whole "press release" thing over here, but it would be a bit disingenuous.

HELLRAZER, the first comic project that I worked on that saw any kind of publication (okay, only), has officially launched as a webcomic over at DrunkDuck. It's inspired a bit by shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as Marvel's old Midnight Sons books. It'll be updated every Tuesday and Friday, and the stories will be bundled together for print purchase after their completion online.

I sure do hope you check it out...I'm VERY excited about what's to come here.

[DBloC] Today is a total non-starter

Yeah, so I've started, stopped and deleted this blog post about a dozen times.

If I weren't doing DBloC, I wouldn't be posting today...=P I can't sleep worth a crap this week, which has me running behind and unable to concentrate on anything.

Stuff to look forward to:

- I'll be reviewing GREEN HORNET: GOLDEN AGE REMASTERED #4 and DEAN KOONTZ' FRANKENSTEIN: PRODIGAL SON VOL. 2 #2 (got all of that) over at Project Fanboy by the weekend.

- I think I'm going to start hammering out some characters I have laying around in various supers systems, including Marvel SAGA, ICONS, BASH, Savage Worlds and Hearts & Souls.

- Not ENTIRELY sure what's next in the Review Queue...I'm kicking away at a book that's not going to turn out pretty, I don't think, and those never excite me.

- In awesome, non-review news, I'm sure I'm going to have to partake in Indian Health Services again very soon as I have a tooth giving me INSANE fits again, as well as noticeable hearing loss developing in my left ear...(along with much ringing).

- If you haven't picked it up yet, my first published comic work is available at DriveThruComics for the low, low price of 99 cents. I wrote the back-up story HELLRAZER: LIVING IN SHADOWS.

Anyway, I hope to add more productive stuff to the blog through the rest of the month, but no promises.

MAX LIVES~!

As some of you know, I fancy myself something of a comic book writer.

I've only had the one book published so far (Equinox #1, now only 99 cents in digital format), but earlier this year, Werner Mueck, Ben Soto and I entered Small Press Idol 2010 with mine and Werner's brainchild: Max Monkey, Monster Masher.

We started off really strong in the contest, but were summarily rejected in Round 3 by the judges, at which point our voting coalition also fell apart, meaning we barely retained our "cover slot" in Mysterious Visions Anthology. Our chances of being picked up for anything after the contest were similarly hurt, since our 12 page story was not finished by July 15th (and, indeed, is not finished today, though it is much closer now) due to frustrations with the contest.

However, it is finally back on track, in the capable hands of Ben Soto who is completing the coloring on the project (and maybe lettering, depending).

Personally, I'm glad to see it. No disrespect intended to anyone else in the contest, I promise, but I completely believe in Max Monkey as a concept, and if nothing else, I am looking forward to having it free from the constraints of Small Press Idol, for us to do with as we will...although I am REALLY crushed about us not winning the toy deal...our roster of characters are tailor-made for a toy deal.

Werner and I haven't seriously discussed what format Max will take in the future, at least not in a while...but I do hope people pick up (and enjoy) "Max Monkey and The Mark of Zumagoathulhu" when it is released soon (I will have details, of course).

In other comic news, "Hellrazer versus Voodoo" is in the hands of the colorists as well, well past its October release date. I still can't wait to see that one fully completed. "The Curse", written by me and drawn by Ben Soto, will be the back-up in Equinox #2.

Finally, I'm finalizing the outline on a black and white horror project with Ben Soto (one of two that we are going to be working on simultaneously) that will either be the best thing I've ever done, or the worst thing...but I'm still holding that one close to the vest for a bit.
