Please Allow Me To Re-Introduce Myself

I just swiped this from Timothy Brannan's The Other Side blog, because it seems like the perfect time to reintroduce myself to my readers.

Howdy.

My name is Tommy Brownell, the guy behind The Most Unread Blog on the Internet. Ever. I got my start in in RPGs back in the 8th grade, when I bought the Uncanny X-Men Campaign Set for the Marvel Superheroes Advanced game, having no idea what I was actually buying. A year later, one of my Freshman classmates had a set of AD&D 2nd Edition rulebooks that I borrowed and eagerly learned, becoming the Dungeon Master for our group.

I have played many RPGs since then, and read and reviewed even more, falling in love with RPGs like All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Deadlands, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and sister game Angel), Marvel SAGA (which I maintain is the best supers RPG ever made) and, most famously, Savage Worlds.

I got my start reviewing RPGs several years ago on RPG.net, when I reviewed Don't Rest Your Head and Vs. Monsters for Horror Week. Eventually, I started doing more reviews and this blog came along about three years ago.

While I had done some work for Eden Studios (for comp copies), this blog did also lead into work for Savage Mojo (as a creative consultant and, for a time, Social Media Manager), Daring Entertainment (as an editor), Third Eye Games (savaging some API monsters and helping massage the Savage Worlds rules) and Basic Action Games (some editing).

Even better, thanks to this blog I have been exposed to much wider variety of RPGs, and I like to think that I have helped many of those RPGs become exposed to a much wider audience.

I am also a comic book writer, doing most of my work for Equinox Comics, where I write The Chronicles of Rachel Strand (drawn by my amazing partner in crime, Johnnie Johnson).

I recently suffered a horrific hard drive crash (as documented on this blog), and am now picking up the pieces with a new PC and the loss of a LOT of work and e-mails.

So, I hope you have enjoyed the blog to this point, I hope I have helped you find a new game or two that you love, and I hope that you stick around to see what happens next.

Tommy

  1. Awesome! Glad to "meet" you once again.

If people read both of our posts they will see we also have the Eden connection thing going. We both worked on Buffy more than 10 years ago (has it been that long??)

Glad to see you are crawling back after the death of your drive. It really sucks to loose that much stuff.

  2. I am definitely NOT going to put myself in that position again. Redundancy measures WILL be taken.

Yeah, it seems weird that it was that long ago...I remember when the original playtest BEGAN. Crazy.

And thanks for the welcome back...=) I wouldn't have made it back so soon, but my best friend and one of the company owners I work for were dead set on me NOT staying down for long.

  3. Yay! You've introduced me to a number of games, most notably Savage Worlds in general and Deadlands in particular. Glad you're back, Tommy.

  4. Glad to see you re-introduced :)

...although the best supers game of all time is quite obviously BASH! UE

    1. I have a lot of fondness for BASH UE from READING it...but I've never had a chance to run it yet. (It was part of my Top Six in my blog's first year).

    2. It does have its issues, mainly as some of the powers are a little bit open to interpretation, and powerful enhancements are not presented well enough. However, I think it's an awesome system. I would prefer a little more emphasis on skills mind.

With that in mind, but still wanting something reasonably light, I bought the Savage Worlds Super Powers Companion as I'm a big fan of SW. However, I'm having the hardest time converting some of the characters over.

I've a Temperature Controller which is going to be ...very expensive and I don't even know where to start with my mad scientist (especially as he has a device that can basically replicate other powers...it worked in BASH!...)

And I am wondering what the best way of Power Stunting powers would be (i.e., having super speed and vibrating to go through walls, creating whirlwinds etc.

I did a houserule for it...and Daring Entertainment's Hellbrood introduced a slightly more robust option.
